I've been working on a few projects recently and hopefully I'll have some images to show (WIP's) etc in the following week. (I'm too lazy to post anything right now.)
One of these projects is a Black and White Soviet building set. To achieve the look I wanted has been a trail and error experience for me that started back in school. At first using Maya's ramp shaders I created harsh cut offs between black and white and grays based on brightness levels. However after further experimentation I noticed that this method caused lights to act strangely depending on the position of the black and white in the ramp. Shadows cast to sometimes show as white and light to show as black. I ended up switching to a method that was considerably closer to the methods used in the movie Renaissance which was the look I was trying to imitate in the first place.
The other project of current note is my second attempt at car construction. (My first being an ugly, insanely high polygon, model of a Yugo that is currently being used in my Noir Set, where it looks half decent.) I patched modeled the car off of some Nissan 200SX blue prints and then through both accident and deliberate action modified the style and parts for a more sporty version. Final Render is complete and has been brought into After Effects to be placed into my new Demo reel.
And on a side note...
Ever have one of those days... where you're back in your home town and you run into someone that you haven't seen in years. Then later you can't seem to get them out of your head? Its starting to disrupt my ability to work.

Life is like a clean canvas. We are the artist.
For every stroke and every color we use dictates the output.
It doesn't matter how we render it as long as we can proudly say it is our masterpiece.

A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, "Daddy, you shouldn't wear that suit."
"And why not, darling?"
"You know that it always gives you a headache next morning."
Take care!!
